BYUSA Elections

Students run in the BYUSA Election as a candidate pair, President and Executive Vice President. The student body vote will take place at the end of February. The time in between consists of developing a plan for the proposed year in office, developing a campaign, and participating in a series of experiences to connect candidates with the student body.

The Elections Handbook outlines the expectations for candidates and rules of campaigning throughout that time.

Notable Changes to the Elections Process

• Three-Phase Elections Process: The election process will be divided into three phases: Exploration, Preparation, and Finalists. Each phase will have its own requirements, experiences, and expectations for candidates.
• Two Finalist Pairs: Only two candidate pairs will be selected as finalists and will move forward to run in the student body election.
• Interviews: Candidates will participate in interviews with deans, Area Coordinators, and a student panel as part of the finalist selection process.
• Open-Book Tests: Candidates will be required to complete open-book tests as part of the selection process.
• Social Media and Campaigning: Candidates will not be permitted to create campaign-specific social media accounts. Instead, candidates will have opportunities to post through the @byu.students Instagram account and will have an individual webpage on the BYUSA website.
